Katherine Cummings

Katherine has been a professional librarian for more than forty years, in academic and large research libraries. She has worked in Canada and the United States as well as in Queensland, the ACT and New South Wales. In Sydney she has worked for four of the universities as well as the Institute of Technology, the Sydney College of the Arts and the State Library of NSW. She is known for her innovative and developmental skills and was the first librarian in Australia to develop coin-operated photocopiers (1965) and the first Australian librarian to install electronic book security gates (Upsala College, New Jersey 1972). She holds the TAFE Desktop Publishing Certificate and is interested in book production. Katherine is a freelance writer and book reviewer and her 1992 autobiography, Katherine’s Diary, won the Australian Human Rights Award for Non-Fiction.
