Clients of alcohol and other drug treatment services The harmful use of alcohol and other drugs is associated with negative impacts on the social, economic or physical well-being of an individual and also on the community in which they live. There is often an interaction between abuse of alcohol or other drugs and difficulties in employment, health, housing and family or other relationships. Problems in one area, such as employment or relationships, can lead to problems in alcohol or other drug use, and vice versa. In turn, this can lead to difficulties in participation or even exclusion from some areas of society. Current policies aim to minimise drug-related harm to individuals and communities and improve the health, social and economic outcomes for both groups. Paper
