Towards equity? Social inequality, education and post-school plans - some policy implications Recent research on the aspirations and expectations of high school students in Australia has revealed the significance of family background. Family background has a significant bearing on the differing destinations students target in their post-school plans. It also influences the extent to which post-school plans are implemented, an influence more marked when those plans involve university attendance.
