A Place in the Sun? Social policy and the environment in Australian cities

Urban planning and development in some Australian cities face particular challenges in the 21st century, with growing environmental concerns (including water shortages, pollution and ever-increasing demands for energy), apparently insurmountable problems of transport and a continuing inequitable distribution of housing and employment opportunities. How are we to address these problems and what are the implications for traditional social policy concerns of distributional equity, inclusion/exclusion and social disadvantage?
