In 2004 Mission Australia conducted its third annual national survey of young Australians aged 11 to 24 years. Eight and a half thousand young Australians completed the survey which asked questions about what they valued, the issues of importance to them, who they admired, where they turned for advice and support and the type of activities they were involved in. Around 100 of the respondents were homeless or in insecure housing.

This presentation will explore in detail the responses of these homeless young Australians, including how their responses compare with other respondents. The presentation will also report on focus groups undertaken with homeless young Australians which explore these issues in more detail. The presentation will provide some unique insights into the lives of homeless young Australians and explore the policy and practice implications of these findings.
